No. 12 Princeton Draws No. 15 Yale to Wrap ECAC Hockey Weekend
January 27, 2024 | Women's Ice Hockey
Katherine Khramtsov had Princeton's goal with just less than five minutes to go in the second period, but Yale's Suzy Higuchi found the equalizer less than three minutes later, and 1-1 was how it ended on Saturday afternoon in New Haven as the No. 12-ranked Tiger women's hockey team drew No. 15 Yale.
Yale won the shot stat 62-50 overall and 27-26 on goal as Tiger netminder Jennifer Olnowich stopped 26 shots and counterpart Pia Dukaric made 25 saves.Â
The play that resulted in Khramtsov's goal began deep in the Princeton end, with Kate Monihan, Dominique Cormier and Khramtsov all working to take away the puck from Yale and then keep it away as Princeton worked it back toward neutral ice. Emerson O'Leary received a pass from Khramtsov in the neutral zone and then gave it back to a charging Khramtsov as Khramtsov crossed the blue line. With Yale defender Emma DeCorby shadowing her, Khramtsov shoveled a one-handed shot toward Dukaric, and though Dukaric made the initial stop, the Yale netminder couldn't keep hold of the puck as it bounced upward and looked to carom off Khramtsov's stick and into the net.
The Tiger led lasted just 2:34 as Higuchi had a rebound goal with 2:26 before the last ice cut, and it stayed 1-1 the rest of the way.
Princeton will return to Connecticut next weekend to take on Quinnipiac, ranked No. 8 in both national polls this week.
