No. 14 Women’s Hockey Falls To Yale In Overtime
January 11, 2025 | Women's Ice Hockey
NEW HAVEN, Conn.- The Princeton women's hockey team made the trip to take on the Yale Bulldogs in a non-conference matchup. In a busy night for both defenses, the Bulldogs came out with a 2-1 win in overtime.
The first two periods carried a defensive storyline throughout, as both teams were held scoreless. Jennifer Olnowich made 15 saves in goal for the Tigers through the first two frames and Princeton successfully killed off three power plays.
After over 48 minutes of play, Brooklyn Nimegeers ricocheted a shot top shelf to record her first career goal and gave Princeton a 1-0 lead.
Yale picked up its fourth power play of the game and looked to even the score. The Bulldogs won the faceoff in the offensive zone and Freshman Cami Bell found the first Yale goal of the game to even the score with Carina DiAntonio and Olivia Muhn on the helpers.
With 1:06 left on the clock in regulation, Princeton was back to being a man-down. The Tigers successfully held off any offensive attacks from Yale as the final 54 seconds of the power play carried into overtime.
Although Cara Morey's squad was able to kill yet another Yale power play, momentum was in the Bulldogs' favor as DiAntonio tipped the puck into the back of the goal to close out the game.
Princeton will finish the final leg of three consecutive travel weekends with matchups against Cornell and Colgate on the road. The games are set for Jan. 24 at 6:00 PM and Jan. 25 at 3:00 PM respectively.
