Crimson Claims Compton Cup In Tight Heavyweight Crew Finish
April 21, 2007 | Heavyweight Rowing
One season removed from an exciting road win for the Princeton heavyweights in the annual Compton Cup showdown, the Harvard Crimson edged out a game Princeton 1V to regain the Cup in a sunny showdown on Lake Carnegie. The Tigers finished 1.5 seconds behind the Crimson but did earn a sizable win over MIT.
Harvard swept all four races Saturday, including its victory in 5:54.3 in the 1V showdown. Princeton placed second in 5:55.8, while MIT took third in 6:26.6. That would be the closest of the four races, as the Harvard 2V, 3V and 1F all put worth winning efforts on a beautiful Saturday morning. There was a slight tailwind to start the day, but by the time of the 1V showdown, there was a slight headwind.
Princeton finished its 2V in 6:09.3, its 3V in 6:31.0 and its 1N in 5:52.3. The Tigers are now 5-1 on the season and will head to Derby, Conn., next weekend to take on Ivy rivals Yale and Cornell.
