TIGER ATHLETICS GIVE DAY WEBPAGE
The first intercollegiate athletilc event in Princeton University history was a baseball game that was played on a damp Thursday against Williams College. The date of that game was Nov. 22, 1864.
As the 150th anniversary of that game approaches, Princeton Athletics is planning to recognize its past and celebrate its present in a variety of ways.
Beginning tomorrow, goprincetontigers.com will begin a series that traces the history of all 38 Princeton varsity teams. There will be four teams featured per day for the rest of this week and then all of next week (indoor and outdoor track and field will be combined into one story, for a total of 36 stories).
Princeton will use its Twitter feed @putigers for 150th anniversary trivia and contests, including the ability to win tickets to upcoming events.
The 150th anniversary itself falls on a Saturday, during which Princeton will be home in men's basketball at 11 a.m. against Incarnate Word and then in football at 1 against Dartmouth. There is also women's hockey at 4 against Clarkson.
One ticket will get you into both the men's basketball and football games and there is free admission to the women's hockey game. There will be t-shirt giveaways at all three games as well as 150th themed promotions to commemorate this historic day in Princeton Athletics.
The celebration will continue after the actual anniversary, culminating with Tiger Athletics Give Day (#TAGD) that will feature competition among Princeton's Athletics Friends Groups. The Princeton Varsity Club Board has issued $120,000 in challenge funds in support of giving to Princeton Athletics. The one-day giving challenge will take place on Tuesday, December 2nd. Princeton has produced 1,455 All-Americas, 202 national champions and 140 Olympians and has won 429 Ivy League championships, nearly one-quarter of all Ivy titles earned.
