Putting in 57 points in the first half, the Princeton men's basketball team didn't slow down much after the break, reaching triple digits for the first time since 1971 in a 104-52 win over Lafayette to move to 3-0 on the season.
All 15 Tigers played, none more than 20 minutes, and eight players combined to hit 17 3-pointers, the second-most for Princeton against a Division I opponent in the 30-plus seasons the line has been in place.
Juniors Henry Caruso and Steven Cook each had double-doubles, Caruso with 13 points and 10 boards and Cook with 12 and 10, marking the first time since 1974 that Princeton had two players with double-doubles in the same game. Noah Bramlage scored 14 points to lead the team, the second time in three games this season, along with Devin Cannady's 17 against Rider, that a freshman has led the team in scoring. Cannady was in double figures again tonight with 12, and sophomore Mike LeBlanc dropped in four late 3-pointers to be the fifth Tiger in double figures with a career-high 12 points.
The 52-point margin of victory was the most for Princeton against a Division I opponent since Feb. 10, 1968, when the Tigers beat Brown by 58, 96-38. The lopsided win is also the largest margin of victory in the second-most played non-league series for Princeton, with the 52-point win in the 68th meeting eclipsing a 49-point win, 108-59, in 1958.
Princeton never trailed in the win, getting out to a 14-2 lead over the first three minutes and shooting 63.6 percent from the field in the first half before finishing at 55.1 percent for the game.
It all added up to a 3-0 start for Princeton, the first for the program since the 2003-04 season. The Tigers will try to be 4-0 for the first time since 1997-98 Monday night, when Fairleigh Dickinson comes to Princeton for a 7 p.m. tip. All fans will receive pom-poms to root on the Tigers and fans bringing an unwrapped toy to donate to the Teams and Toys program will get in free.
