Princeton's bid for its first road win over an AP top-13 team since 1967 looked promising Tuesday night at Miami, but the Hurricanes rallied to quash the upset, 76-64.
The Tigers led 52-45 with less than 11 minutes to go in the game, but then went 3 of 15 from the field the rest of the way. Miami used a 10-0 run to flip a 53-47 deficit with just more than 10 minutes to go into a 57-53 lead two minutes later, and though Princeton briefly regained the lead at 58-57 on a pair of Henry Caruso free throws with 6:36 to play, Miami scored the next five points and led the rest of the way.
Amir Bell led all scorers with 17 points to tie a career high for the sophomore, and Princeton was tough defensively with eight steals to just two for the Hurricanes. Caruso led the four Tigers who had at least one swipe, getting three to go along with 14 points.
Princeton was aiming for its first win over an AP-ranked team since 2012, when it beat No. 25 Harvard in Jadwin Gym, and its first win over a team ranked as high as 13th since 1977, when the Tigers knocked off No. 2 Notre Dame in Jadwin. The last time Princeton beat a top-13 team on that team's floor was 1967, when Princeton toppled No. 3 North Carolina.
The Tigers led by three at the half, closing the period on a 6-0 run, but the Hurricanes shot 62.1 percent after the break on the way to scoring 49 second-half points to thwart the upset bid.
