Neither team had a great night from the field Tuesday at Saint Joseph's, but the Hawks fared just a little better than Princeton in a 62-50 win.
The loss was Princeton's second straight since a 4-0 start to the season, as Stony Brook dealt the Tigers their first defeat last Saturday on Long Island.
The Tigers finished with a 28.8 percent shooting clip from the field, 10 points lower than the Hawks, spoiling a night that saw junior Spencer Weisz grab a career-high 12 rebounds and classmate Steven Cook go 6 of 13 from the field on the way to 15 points with seven boards.
Princeton trailed by just three points at the half despite shooting just 27.3 percent in the opening 20 minutes and being outrebounded 20-17 for the half. The Tigers made up part of the gap between their shooting and Saint Joseph's hitting at a 42.9 percent clip by making six 3-pointers in the period to pull within 28-25 at the break after trailing by as many as nine points.
After the break, the teams combined to miss their first 12 shots before a DeAndre Bembry bucket three and a half minutes into the stanza ended the drought, and the Hawks opened a seven-point lead before Princeton got on the board with a Myles Stephens bucket nearly five minutes after halftime. From there, Princeton never got closer than five points while Saint Joseph's' game-ending 12-point lead matched its largest of the night.
Princeton will cap its three-game road swing with its first-ever trip to Lipscomb in Nashville for a 5 p.m. ET tip Saturday. The game, which will be Princeton's first in Tennessee since 1984, can be seen on ESPN3.com.
