For the ninth time in program history, the Princeton men's basketball team is 10-0 in the Ivy League as the Tigers completed a weekend sweep with a 66-51 win at Brown Saturday night.
The 10-0 Ivy mark and the 13-game winning streak Princeton is on are both program-bests since the 1997-98 season, when Princeton went 14-0 in the Ivy for the fifth time in program history and won a program-record 20 consecutive games. Head coach Mitch Henderson was a senior on that team.
It's the first time since 2001 that Princeton went to Yale and then Brown to complete the sweep, as it has the chance to do every other season. It's also the first time Princeton has gone 4-0 on its four games in New England (at Dartmouth, Harvard, Yale and Brown) since 2010.
Princeton went on an 11-0 run around the midpoint of the first half to push its lead into double figures, and once Steven Cook hit a 3-pointer with just less than 10 minutes to go before halftime, the Tigers never led by fewer than 10 points.
Steven Cook matched Brown's Steven Spieth with a game-high 17 points, while Amir Bell added 13 off the bench and Pete Miller chipped in 10. The Tigers used 54 percent shooting overall in the first half and 58 percent (7-12) from 3 to build a lead that was as large as 18 points before the break, and though Brown chipped it to 10 with less than nine minutes to go before the game, Princeton's lead peaked at 21 points on a Steven Cook free throw with 14-plus minutes left in the game.
Princeton will head out on the road next weekend as well, making the New York trip with Columbia Friday and Cornell Saturday.
