Men's Hockey Edged At #7/8 Clarkson, 2-1
January 10, 2020 | Men's Ice Hockey
POTSDAM, N.Y. – A third-period Clarkson goal broke a 1-1 tie and denied Princeton's hopes of a win over a ranked ECAC opponent as the No. 7/8-ranked Golden Knights held on for a 2-1 win at Cheel Arena.
The game-winner came on a delayed penalty call, Clarkson taking advantage of the extra man to break the deadlock on an Adam Tisdale goal.
Liam Grande had the goal for the Tigers, scoring in the second period seconds after a Princeton powerplay. The goal was his fourth of the season. Mark Paolini and Derek Topatigh had the assists, each recording his third point in his last two games.
Jeremie Forget finished the game with 32 saves.
The Golden Knights took a 1-0 lead midway through the first period as Haralds Egle scored a power-play goal. His low slap shot from the point slipped through a screen and by Forget with assists to Jack Jacome and Josh Dunne.
Princeton tied the game late in the second period off the stick of Liam Grande. Seconds after a Tigers powerplay expired, Grande was off the left post and collected his own rebound with assists to Derek Topatigh and Mark Paolini with 3:44 remaining in the middle stanza.
Each team had an abbreviated powerplay early in the third period, but neither side could break through. After Clarkson's man-advantage was complete, Princeton got some help from the pipe as Mathieu Gosselin clanged a shot from space off the post.
The Golden Knights regained their lead midway through the third period. With a delayed penalty against Princeton, Adam Tisdale snuck free in the slot and one-timed home the rebound of a Jordan Schneider shot.
The Tigers are back in action tomorrow night, taking on St. Lawrence at SUNY-Canton Arena at 7 p.m.
