
Women's Hockey Team's Final Series of 2021 Sends Tigers to Syracuse

In the team's final series of the 2021 portion of the schedule, the Princeton women's hockey team will head to Syracuse for a two-game set on Friday and Saturday.

On Syracuse: Eleven players have split the team's 41 goals this season with Abby Moloughney leading the team 13 points, co-leading with six goals with Madison Primeau, and co-leading with seven assists with Sarah Marchand. Arielle DeSmet has played better than three-quarters of the team's minutes in goal, accruing a 2.27 GAA with a 5-5-3 record and a .932 save percentage.
All in the Family:Â Syracuse senior Shelby Calof is a cousin of Princeton men's hockey alum Andrew Calof '14, and Princeton freshman Jennifer Olnowich is the sister of 2020 Syracuse women's hockey alum Allie Olnowich.
Common Opponents: Princeton and Syracuse have both already had two common opponents, with Princeton going 1-0-1 against Union (win) and Colgate (tie), and Syracuse going 1-2 against those teams (1-0 vs. Union, 0-2 vs. Colgate).
National Rankings: Entering the week, senior Sharon Frankel led the nation in total faceoffs won, at 253, with Princeton standing third nationally in faceoff winning percentage, at .582. Princeton's scoring defense was fifth, at 1.50 goals per game allowed, with Rachel McQuigge third in save percentage, at .955, and ninth in GAA, at 1.456. Maggie Connors stood eighth in the nation in goals per game, at 0.67.
The Series with Syracuse: Princeton and Syracuse have played four two-game series all-time, two in each team's venue, with Princeton holding a 5-2-1 series lead. Princeton swept two in Oct. 2019 in Baker and went 1-0-1 in the last visit to Syracuse, in Nov. 2018.
Century Club: Junior Maggie Connors earned her 100th career point last time out at Providence, getting an assist on Mia Coene's goal in the 1-1 tie. Former teammate Carly Bullock '20 was the last Tiger to reach 100, finishing her career with 159 points.
An Historic Season: In 2019-20, Princeton set program records for wins (26), points (305) and assists (183), and had the second-most goals in a season, at 122, behind only the 135 scored in thee 1983-84 season
Firsts: Four Tigers have scored their first goals as Tigers in freshmen Sarah Paul, Mia Coene, Dominique Cormier and Ellie Marcovsky. The first-timers represent four of Princeton's eight goal scorers so far on the season.
Program Record?: Senior Rachel McQuigge has a 1.46 GAA so far this season and has a 1.67 GAA for her career entering the weekend. Princeton's program record for career GAA for goalies who were regular starters is 1.70, held by Roxanne Gaudiel '06. McQuigge already holds the single-season record for best GAA among starters, at 1.51 from the 2019-20 season. McQuigge could also achieve the program's best save percentage in a career by a a regular starter, held by former teammate Stephanie Neatby '20 at .933, standing at .937 entering the weekend. McQuigge also surpassed 1,000 career saves during the Providence weekend, something that eight previous Tiger netminders, most recently Neatby, have done, with 1,036 career stops entering the weekend. McQuigge is ninth on Princeton's career save list, with Kari Rosenkranz '92 eighth at 1,086 saves.
Olympic Dreams: Princeton is without Sarah Fillier this season as she aims to help Canada pursue Olympic gold. Fillier, who would return as a junior, is with former Tiger teammate Claire Thompson '20 in pursuit of a spot on the Canadian roster, which is expected to be announced in December.
