Tigers to Host St. Lawrence Tuesday Night

Ten days after the teams were originally scheduled to meet, St. Lawrence will visit the Princeton women's hockey team in a rescheduled game on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Baker Rink.Â

Princeton has announced it will be limiting spectators at indoor athletic events to Princeton students, faculty, and staff who are fully compliant with the University's COVID-19 protocols. This attendance restriction will extend through January 31. Princeton students, faculty, and staff who are fully compliant with the University's COVID-19 protocols may show their Princeton ID at the door to gain admission to athletics events from now through January 31. All seats will be general admission.
The Tigers enter at 8-6-3 overalll and 6-3-1 in ECAC Hockey, one of three teams at 19.5 points along with Colgate and Yale. Harvard (25 points), Clarkson (24.5) and Quinnipiac (21) hold the top three spots, with league teams having played between nine and 12 of their 22 league games. Princeton is 10 games into the league season. St. Lawrence (7-9-5, 3-4-2) is nine games into the league season.
Rookies' bests and firsts: Grace Kuipers had a four-assist game at Union to become the first Tiger since Sarah Fillier on Dec. 7, 2019 against Colgate to have a four-assist game (Fillier had five). Mia Coene had her first two-point game, with a goal and an assist, and Emma Dornseif had her first career point, getting an assist.
Changes: Princeton has had to move a few games so far because of player availability around the pandemic and injuries on one team or the other. Tuesday's game against St. Lawrence was due to be played on Jan. 8, but was postponed. Princeton's Jan. 15 visit to RPI has been postponed, and the teams are looking for a reschedule date.
National rankings: Entering Friday, prior to Princeton's game at Union, Princeton ranked in the top 10 in the nation in team faceoff winning percentage (third, .582) and scoring defense (eighth, 1.62) goals allowed per game. Sharon Frankel was tops in the nation with 331 faceoff wins while Rachel McQuigge was third in the nation in save percentage at .954 and eighth in GAA at 1.47, and Maggie Connors was eighth with three game-winning goals.
The series with St. Lawrence: Princeton leads the all-time series with St. Lawrence 37-29-4 overall and is tied 17-17-2 at home. Princeton holds a five-game winning streak in the series overall since St. Lawrence's last win on Feb. 23, 2019 at St. Lawrence, and Princeton has won the last four at home since St. Lawrence's last win in Baker on Feb. 10, 2018.
Century club: Junior Maggie Connors, now with 103 career points, earned her 100th on Dec. 4 at Providence. Former teammate Carly Bullock '20 was the last Tiger to reach 100, finishing her career with 159 points.
An historic season: In 2019-20, Princeton set program records for wins (26), points (305) and assists (183), and had the second-most goals in a season, at 122, behind only the 135 scored in the 1983-84 season.
Firsts: Five Tigers have scored their first goals as Tigers in freshmen Sarah Paul, Mia Coene, Grace Kuipers, Dominique Cormier and Ellie Marcovsky. The first-timers represent five of Princeton's 12 goal scorers so far on the season.
Program record?: Senior Rachel McQuigge has a 1.47 season and 1.66 career GAA entering the weekend. McQuigge already holds the single-season record for best GAA among starters, at 1.51 from the 2019-20 season. Princeton's program record for career GAA for goalies who were regular starters is 1.70, held by Roxanne Gaudiel '06. McQuigge could also achieve the program's best save percentage in a career by a a regular starter, held by former teammate Stephanie Neatby '20 at .933, standing at .937 entering the weekend. McQuigge is eighth on Princeton's career save list, at 1,124. Elizabeth Hill '96 is seventh, at 1,273.
Olympians!: Princeton is without Sarah Fillier this season as she aims to help Canada pursue Olympic gold. Fillier, who would return as a junior, is headed to Beijing with former Tiger teammate Claire Thompson '20 after the roster was announced Jan. 11. The four-time gold-winning Canadians are looking for their first gold since 2014 after the U.S. won gold in 2018.
