Men’s Basketball Wins London Classic Championship After 56-54 Triumph Over Northeastern

LONDON – The Princeton University men's basketball team are the 2022 London Basketball Classic Champions after rallying with a 12-0 run in the second half to defeat Northeastern Saturday night inside Copper Box Arena, 56-54.
Senior Ryan Langborg led the Tigers with 17 points on 6-for-11 shooting along with six rebounds, a career-high five steals, a career-high three blocks and two assists. Senior Tosan Evbuomwan, the tournament MVP playing in his native England for the first time at the college level, added 13 points, while senior Keeshawn Kellman finished with seven points, a career-high 10 rebounds along with a career-high three blocks. The Tigers also received a boost off the bench from freshman Xaivian Lee, who had 12 points on 3-for-6 shooting from the field along with 5-for-6 shooting from the free throw line.
Princeton took a 7-4 lead with 17:27 on the clock following a three-point play by Langborg, but the Huskies jumped ahead, 13-9, at 15:22 help from an 8-0 run. Northeastern would shortly after extend its lead to six, 17-11, with 13:36 left in the half, but a long three-pointer by Lee made it a 17-15 contest at 12:41.
A layup by Lee put Princeton in front, 20-19, with 10:27 left in the half, but a 6-0 Huskie run saw Northeastern take a 25-20 lead with 7:14 left in the half. The Tigers would soon battle back; a jump hook by Kellman with 5:04 on the clock sparked a 6-0 run that saw Princeton tie it up, 28-28, at 3:17 but it was Northeastern who would take a 32-30 advantage into the half.
Kellman opened the second half by backing his defender down and throwing down a powerful two-handed poster dunk, tying the score at 32-23 with 19:26 on the clock. Northeastern responded by racing out to an eight-point advantage, 45-37, with 11:43 remaining.
Northeastern extended its lead to nine, 47-38, with 6:48 remaining, but a Langborg layup at 5:34 ignited a 12-0 run, that included a three-point by by Evbuomwan that saw him drive right, get hit then lay the ball high off the glass with 3:19 on the clock. Princeton's 12-0 run saw the Tigers take a 53-49 lead following another Evbuomwan layup with 2:42 left to play.
Senior Matt Allocco helped the Tigers stay ahead with a clutch block at 0:43, and Lee knocked down a pair of late free throws with 0.8 remaining to keep Princeton ahead, 56-53. The Tigers would hold on for the victory, claiming the London Basketball Classic with a final score of 56-54.
