No. 6 Princeton Tops Cornell 4-0, Clinches Ivy Tournament Spot
October 17, 2025 | Field Hockey
If you were worried how the Princeton field hockey team would respond emotionally after taking down the No. 1 team in the country four days ago, you needn't have been.
No. 6 Princeton again scored an early goal and built on it from there to take down Cornell 4-0 on Bedford Field. The win, coupled with Penn's 2-1 win over Columbia, clinched an Ivy League tournament spot for the Tigers.
The game came after Princeton returned home late Monday from Chicago after a 3-2 win over Northwestern, the No. 1 team in the country and the defending NCAA champion. It's not easy to turn around in such a short time after a big win like that one and be ready to go again, and that was the challenge for the Tigers. So was the fact that Cornell was leading Division I in penalty corners per game with more than 11.
Beth Yeager got Princeton started with a blast off a feed from Ottilie Sykes three minutes into the game, becoming the first of four goal scorers for the Tigers. Princeton added another one in each quarter, with Caitlin Thompson from Clem Houlden to make it a 2-0 game at the break, Anna Faulstich's first career score off a feed from Pru Lindsey in the third and then Lindsey's finish on a penalty stroke in the fourth.
Princeton held Cornell without a single penalty corner in the first half. The Big Red got their first early in the third quarter but couldn't score, and it was a 3-0 game before they had another one. Olivia Caponiti had to make only one save on the night, but it was a beauty on the last penalty corner of the game.
Next up for Princeton will be No. 13 Monmouth, who will be at Bedford Field Sunday at noon.

First career goal for Anna Faulstich, from Pru, and it's 3-0 Tigers after the review has the goal stand.
