PRINCETON, N.J. - Princeton returns to action on Saturday against Delaware at Jadwin. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m. The game will be streamed on the Ivy League Network and be shown on television on NBC Sports Philadelphia + (formerly the Comcast Network).
Before we take a look at Delaware, let's review the Villanova contest...
Nova Top 25 – Villanova came into the game at No. 24 in USA Today's Coaches' Poll and No. 25 in the Associated Press Top 25. It's Villanova's first appearance in the AP poll since Nov. 29, 2004. It was Princeton's first game against ranked opponent since taking on No. 23 West Virginia in the first round of the 2016 NCAA Tournament (Mar. 18). The Tigers have not defeated a ranked opponent since Jan. 5, 1978 against No. 18 Rutgers (70-57).
Villanova's Defense – One of the top defenses in the country, the Wildcats did a quality job in defending the three-point line against Princeton. The Tigers were just 3-of-15 from beyond the arc and made just one trey after the first quarter. It was Princeton's worst performance of the year, shooting from deep.
Villanova From Deep – The Wildcats were 7-of-16 (43.8 percent) from the three-point line. Villanova has made at least six treys in every game this season and had the best outing from a Tigers' opponent this season in that category.
Princeton Class of 2021 – Abby Meyers was one of three players for Princeton that scored in double-figures, adding 10 points. She added three rebounds, a block and an assist in the loss. Carlie Littlefield had a season-best five assists as well.
Bella Alarie – What more is there to say about Alarie? She scored a career-high 29 points on 10-of-13 shooting (76.9 percent), adding nine rebounds, three blocks and two steals against Villanova. If the season ended today, Alarie would set the all-time single-season record for three-point field goal percentage (53.8) while her 19.4 points per game would be second, her 58.6 shooting percentage would be the second highest and her 10.2 rebounds per game would be sixth best.
Here's a look at what to watch out for Saturday vs. Delaware -
Turnovers – Delaware (19.0) and Princeton (18.2) are among the highest turnover rates in the country. The Tigers' 11 turnovers against No. 24/No. 25 Villanova were the fewest they've had this year. The Blue Hens have turned the ball over at least 16 times in five of their seven games this season.
Delaware's Defense – The Blue Hens' defense ranks 208th in the NCAA at 67.1 points per game. They have given up 80 points three times so far. Princeton has recorded at least 30 points in seven of its 10 halves to begin the 2017-18 season. The Tigers are shooting 42.4 percent from the floor with two players averaging at least 10 points per game in Alarie and Carlie Littlefield. Tia Weledji (9.6) and Abby Meyers (9.3) are right behind them.
Defending The Three-Point Line - Delaware also sits 202nd nationally in three-point field goal percentage defense (32.0). Princeton has three players shooting over 40 percent from beyond the arc in Alarie (53.8), Littlefield (45.5) and Weledji (41.7).
Nicole Enabosi – Enabosi has had a fantastic start to the 2017-18 season, averaging 21.0 points and 12.9 rebounds per game. She is sixth in the country in rebounds/game, 10th in free throws made (43), seventh in double-doubles (five), 22nd in field goals made (52), 24th in field-goal percentage (62.7) and 29th in points/game. She collected CAA Women's Basketball Player of the Week accolades in back-to-back weeks on Monday.
