No. 5 Princeton and No. 3 Maryland Square Off At Bedford Tomorrow

PRINCETON, N.J. – The No. 5 Princeton Tigers welcome the undefeated No. 3 Maryland Terrapins (8-0) to Bedford Field on Tuesday night (6 p.m.) in a huge non-conference tilt.

Weekend Update:
- Four different Tigers scored as Princeton ran by Monmouth, 4-1, on Friday afternoon.
- Princeton held a 20-8 shot advantage and 7-2 lead in corners. Sophia Tornetta led the squad with six attempts while four other players had at least two shots. Grace Baylis made two saves in the win.
- Julianna Tornetta scored twice as Princeton took down No. 13 Delaware, 4-2, on Sunday.
- The two squads combined for 31 shots with the home team holding a 21-10 advantage. Princeton had 14 shots on goal while Delaware produced four. The Tigers also held a 9-6 corner advantage in the victory.
- Princeton had nine of the top 25 teams in the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I Preseason Coaches' Poll on its schedule.
- Head coach Carla Tagliente's squad opened the season with five straight nationally ranked foes, going 3-2.
- Princeton will also take on No. 21 Boston University on Sept. 30, No. 1 UConn on Oct. 7 and No. 18 Harvard on Oct. 20.
- The Tigers have two alums on the United States national team in Cat Caro '17 and Kathleen Sharkey '13.
- Sharkey has 145 caps for the national squad, highlighted by a fifth-place finish in the 2016 Rio Olympics. She also helped the national squad to a bronze medal in the Pan American Cup last summer, leading the tournament in scoring with five goals.
- Caro has made 15 appearances for the national team, recording her first cap in January and her first international goal in April.
- Maddie Bacskai, MaryKate Neff and Elise Wong were named to the U.S. U-21 team in July while Sophia Tornetta was picked for the developmental squad.
- The Terrapins lead the all-time series, 22-9-1. Princeton is 4-8 at home against Maryland.
- Princeton hasn't won two in a row against Maryland since the 2012 National Championship season. The last time before that was 1997-98.
- These two teams have met every year since 1997.
- Behind a season-best seven saves from Grace Baylis and tallies from Ryan McCarthy and Clara Roth, No. 17 Princeton defeated No. 10 Maryland, 2-1, at the Maryland Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex.
- Maryland pulled its goalie with 4:05 left in the game, but couldn't register a shot as the Tigers earned its sixth victory over nationally ranked opponent in the last two seasons. McCarthy led the team with five shots, three landing on the cage.
- The Terrapins are one of the best teams in the country, sitting with an 8-0 record. Some of their victories include No. 13 Boston College, No. 3 Duke, No. 12 Delaware and No. 17 Harvard.
- Maryland has outscored its opponents, 34-11, this season.
- Linnea Gonzales (8) and Nike Lorenz (7) have outscored the Terrapins' opponents combined. Gonzalez has 17 points while Lorenz is right behind her with 16.
