No. 5 Princeton Heads To Ithaca for Ivy Meeting With Cornell

PRINCETON, N.J. – The No. 5 Princeton Tigers look to get back on the winning track as they head to Ithaca, N.Y. for an Ivy battle vs. the Cornell Big Red.

What's Going On:
- No. 9 Harvard (12-1, 5-0 Ivy) earned a 3-1 win over No. 3 Princeton (11-4, 4-1 Ivy) at Bedford Field last Saturday.
- Sophia Tornetta scored her 27th career goal with under four minutes to go for the lone Tigers' tally. Her seven goals this season are two shy of her career best set in 2016.
- The Tigers had an 8-6 shot advantage and 6-3 lead in corners.
- The Tigers lead the Ivy League in penalty corners per game (8.07). They are second in defensive saves (six), assists per game (2.53), goals against average (1.24), goals per game (3.33), points per game (9.20) and scoring margin (2.02).
- Princeton's highest national rank (No. 4) is in penalty corners per game.
- MaryKate Neff's five defensive saves are first in the Ivy League and 3rd in the country.
- Hannah Davey's 0.53 assists per contest are second among Ivy players and 26th in the nation.
- Five Tigers (Clara Roth, Sophia Tornetta, Ali McCarthy, Neff and Julianna Tornetta) are among the top 10 in the conference in goals per game.
- Princeton has four players (Roth, Tornetta, Tornetta and Neff) among the top 12 in the conference in points per game.
- Grace Baylis is second in the Ivy League in goals against average (1.28).
- The Tigers have two alums on the United States national team in Cat Caro '17 and Kathleen Sharkey '13.
- Sharkey has 145 caps for the U.S., highlighted by a fifth-place finish in the 2016 Rio Olympics. She also helped the unit to a bronze medal in the Pan American Cup last summer, leading the tournament in scoring with five goals.
- Caro has made 15 appearances for the national squad, recording her first cap in January and her first international goal in April.
- Maddie Bacskai and MaryKate Neff named to the U.S. U-21 team in July while Sophia Tornetta was picked for the developmental squad.
- Princeton is 31-6-3 all-time against Cornell. The Tigers have won nine of the last 10 games against the Big Red.
- The Tigers are 14-4-2 in Ithaca. Prior to the 2016 meeting, a 3-2 double overtime loss, Princeton had not lost on the road to Cornell since the 1990 season.
- No. 14 Princeton used a hat trick from Ryan McCarthy in its 5-1 takedown of Cornell on Senior Day at Bedford Field.
- With the victory, Princeton clinched a share of the Ivy League championship, its 25th all-time, and the Ivy's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
- Cornell is 3-11 this season and 0-5 in the Ivy League. The Big Red's three wins have come against Rider, Colgate and Lehigh.
- Maddy Conklin and Kirsten Pienaar lead the squad with three goals and seven points each.
- Gabby DePetro has a team-best three assists.
