How Did We Get Here?
- Princeton is currently 15-4 overall and on a four-game winning streak.
- After opening the season with a loss to No. 2 North Carolina, the Tigers picked up three straight victories before a 1-0 loss to No. 23 Rutgers.
- Head coach Carla Tagliente's group took down Monmouth and Delaware before a tough 5-4 double overtime loss to No. 3 Maryland at home.
- Princeton followed with six consecutive victories including a dominating 5-2 decision at No. 2 UConn before falling to No. 9 Harvard, 3-1.
- The Tigers rebounded with wins over Cornell and Penn to end the regular season.
- Princeton hosted the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament, securing decisions over No. 13 UVA and No. 6 Harvard to reach its eighth Final Four in program history.
- The Tigers are No. 3 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament.
- This is the Tigers' 24th NCAA Tournament appearance and second-ever at-large bid to the Big Dance.
- Princeton hosted the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2009.
- The last time that the program did not make the tournament was in 2004.
- The Tigers became the first Ivy League school to advance to the NCAA title game in 1996 and won its first and the Ivy League's first NCAA championship in 2012.
- The other semifinal features a matchup of the first two opponents of the 2018 season for Princeton in No. 1 North Carolina and No. 12 Wake Forest.
- That battle will start at 1 p.m. Princeton dropped a 1-0 decision to UNC and picked up a 4-0 victory over the Demon Deacons.
- Princeton had eight players named to All-Ivy teams. Clara Roth also took home Co-Offensive Player of the Year while Elise Wong was named Defensive Player of the Year.
- It's the fourth straight campaign that Princeton earned at least a share of the Ivy Offensive Player of the Year Award (Maddie Copeland, 2015, Cat Caro, 2016, Ryan McCarthy, 2017).
- Roth is second in the conference in points (34), tied for second in goals (13) and tied for third in helpers (eight). The sophomore had three multi-goal games and has registered at least one point in 11 contests. The first team All-Ivy player also secured honorable mention accolades in 2017.
- Princeton has one of the best defensive units in the country, allowing just 1.19 goals per game, good for eighth in the country. That is one of the reasons why Wong was picked as the Ivy Defensive Player of the Year. The Tigers had six shutouts in 2018, five of which came in Ivy action. Princeton did not allow a goal for over 180 minutes of game time (Sept. 22-30) and just one in a four-game stretch (Sept. 22-Oct. 5). The senior set a career high with eight points and finishes her career with four All-Ivy commendations.
- Along with Roth and Wong, both Tornettas and Maddie Bacskai secured first-team All-Ivy selections. Sophia Tornetta posted seven goals and four assists, sitting with 18 points during her senior campaign. She is tied for 10th in the conference in tallies. The senior captain completes her four years with an All-Ivy honor each season.
- After winning the Ivy League Co-Rookie of the Year Award in 2017, Julianna Tornetta was just as productive in 2018, contributing 10 goals and seven helpers (27 points). She is tied for fourth in the Ivy League in goals and fifth in goals.
- Earning All-America status and the conference's Defensive Player of the Year selection in 2017, Bacskai picked up a second straight first-team accolade as part of the magnificent defensive unit for Princeton. She has a personal best 13 points.
- Hannah Davey has had a wonderful start to her time at Princeton, leading the team with 10 assists, good for second highest among Ivy foes. The freshman had a span of six consecutive games with at least one helper and had two three-point contests.
- MaryKate Neff nabbed honorable mention All-Ivy as she produced six goals, three assists for 15 points for the Tigers. A steady offensive force, Neff also added three defensive saves including two against then-No. 3 Maryland (Sept. 18). It's her second straight yearly conference award.
- Grace Baylis was picked honorable mention All-Ivy as well, securing a 15-4 record, 1.22 goals-against-average and four shutouts. One of the junior's best games was six stops against No. 1 North Carolina in a tough 1-0 loss to open the season (Aug. 31). It's the second straight honorable mention pick for Baylis.
- The Tigers rank No. 2 in the country in penalty corners per game (8.21)
- Princeton is among the top 10 in winning percentage (.789, sixth), scoring margin (1.96, seventh), goals against average (1.19, eighth), goals per game (3.21, ninth) and scoring average (3.15, ninth).
- The Tigers have two alums on the United States national team in Cat Caro '17 and Kathleen Sharkey '13.
- Sharkey has 145 caps for the U.S., highlighted by a fifth-place finish in the 2016 Rio Olympics. She also helped the unit to a bronze medal in the Pan American Cup last summer, leading the tournament in scoring with five goals.
- Caro has made 15 appearances for the national squad, recording her first cap in January and her first international goal in April.
- Maddie Bacskai and MaryKate Neff named to the U.S. U-21 team in July while Sophia Tornetta was picked for the developmental squad.
- The Terrapins lead the all-time series, 23-9-1.
- Princeton is 4-9 at home, 3-13-1 on the road and 2-1 at neutral site events against Maryland.
- Princeton hasn't won two in a row against Maryland since the 2012 National Championship season. The last time before that was 1997-98.
- These two teams have met every year since 1997.
- Maryland is 21-2 overall and won the Big Ten Tournament title.
- The Terrapins defeated No. 17 Albany, 2-1, before defeating No. 5 UConn, 2-1, in the NCAA quarterfinals to reach the Final Four.
- The Terrapins have made the NCAA Tournament 24 straight seasons.
- Senior Linnea Gonzales, junior Nike Lorenz and freshman Bibi Donraadt are leading Maryland with 14 goals this season. Maryland has 10 scorers with multiple goals and 15 total Terps have found the goal line.
